All our relatives lived within a 10 mile circle centred on Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire from 1425 until 1891 when Jesse Rayner Gomm moved 60 miles away to Ilford to become a Police Officer. His Son Charles Rayner Gomm then moved to (Greenford) Middx. From there, without knowing the history, his son Thomas Rayner Gomm moved back across London to Hemel Hempstead i.e back towards Aylesbury.

Names in blue are the progression through to Richard Rayner Gomm of present day
notes in green are additional information of branches - provided by relatives thereof
names in red indicate the RAYNER line - "Rayner" is still used to this day, as a christian name, in the GOMM lineage

( knowing our family it'll be the boy peeing in the hedge with the little girl looking on !!! )

The same place photographed in 2006 (slightly different angle).  Note that the house nearest now has a door leading on to the street and the tree on the left has grown considerably, whereas the one in the centre has gone.

Aylesbury Register December quarter vol 3a page 1139 shows that Jesse Rayner Gomm (1870, Aylesbury - ) married Elizabeth Stanley)(1870/1, Aylesbury - ), unemployed daughter of Josiah Stanley a Bricklayers Labourer from 5 New Zealand, Aylesbury on 29th November 1891.  Witnesses were Jesse’s sister Ellen Rayner and Elizabeth’s brother Tom.   Eileen Florence Timbrey ( later to marry Thomas Rayner Gomm ) seen with Jesse & Lillian - photographed around 1947   The tombstone of Jesse and Elizabeth who died within 3 weeks of each other

Jackie Hay also writes: Lillian had a heart condition as a result of having scarlet fever and always lived at home until later in her life when she moved away to live with some man. From what Mum [Anna] can remember, in 1953 Elizabeth went into hospital when Lillian could no longer look after her. Whilst she was in there Jesse was admitted to hospital for an operation. Elizabeth died in hospital and Jesse did not fully recover from his operation and died 3 weeks later. Mum is not sure whether he was actually told that Elizabeth had died before he passed on.
